Iowa Adjuster Bond Requirement Update (2025)

Iowa’s Updated Adjuster Bond Requirement — What Changed in 2025

Iowa significantly updated its insurance adjuster licensing laws in 2025. Under House File 2516 (effective July 1, 2025), the Iowa Insurance Division made two major changes that affect who needs a bond and how much it must be:

What Changed Before July 1, 2025 After July 1, 2025 (Current)
Public Adjuster Bond Amount $20,000 $50,000 ✓
Independent Adjuster Bonding Not required $50,000 required ✓
Independent Adjuster Licensing Not regulated License + exam required ✓
Applies To Public adjusters only Public AND independent adjusters ✓

Key Point: If you are currently licensed as a public adjuster in Iowa with the old $20,000 bond, you must update to $50,000 at your next renewal. New applicants must file the $50,000 bond from day one.

Who Needs the Iowa Adjuster Bond?

Public Adjusters: All licensed public adjusters in Iowa (both resident and non-resident) must maintain a $50,000 surety bond under Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 55.

Independent Adjusters: As of July 1, 2025, all independent adjusters operating in Iowa must be licensed and post a $50,000 surety bond (Iowa Senate File 619).

Business Entities: Public adjuster and independent adjuster business entities must also secure the required bond as part of the licensing process. If you are a company-side insurance adjuster rather than a public adjuster, you may instead need the Iowa Insurance Adjuster Bond.
